Mountain Bolt started the way a lot of good studios do — with one person, a bit of curiosity, and no boss deciding what gets built next. It’s a one-person studio, run by a lifelong tinkerer who likes building things carefully, at an unhurried pace.

Mountain Apps

The heart of the studio is software: calm, focused apps for iPad and iPhone, built without ads, tracking, or the usual noise. The first collection includes Skitter Out, a logic puzzle with a soft edge; Mind Cross, a novel 3D slider puzzle with a tactile puzzle-box feel; and Roselathe, a circular mechanical puzzle built around sliding gears, flipping segments, and four crossed spokes.

A second side of the studio, Mountain Craft, will grow here when its first products are ready.

When is it done?

There’s no roadmap chasing a quarter, and no growth target to feed. A thing goes out when it’s right — when it feels good on the screen, and not before. That’s a slower way to work, and it’s the whole point.

Where

Everything comes out of Goode, Virginia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge — which is where the mountain, and the bolt, come from.
